How Long to Cook Orzo
Orzo is a variety of pasta that resembles small grains of rice. As with other types of dried pasta, orzo can be boiled on the stovetop. To cook plain orzo takes 8-10 minutes. You can cook it in either water or broth depending on your tastes. We recommend broth for the best flavor. Once the cooking liquid comes to a boil, add the orzo and reduce the heat to a simmer. If you are cooking orzo as part of a one-dish recipe in which all of the liquid should be absorbed, we recommend cooking orzo for about 20 minutes at a simmer until tender. One of our favorite orzo recipes, uses lemon, mushrooms, basil, and parmesan cheese, to add flavor to the orzo dish; it's a simple and healthy dish that can be ready to eat in a half hour.
