How Long to Cook Mashed Potatoes
It takes a half-hour or less to cook potatoes for mashed potatoes, and it doesn't take a whole lot longer to complete all of the steps in the classic mashed potato recipe. If you peel and quarter your potatoes, they'll take around 15 minutes to boil; bigger pieces will take closer to 30 minutes. Once they're fork-tender, you can drain your potatoes, add milk, butter, and any other ingredients you like, and mash them up.
