How Long to Cook a Turkey in a Crock-Pot
It takes around 7 to 8 hours to cook a whole turkey in a slow-cooker on low or 3-4 hours if you crank the heat up to high. The exact cooking time will depend on both the heat setting and the size of your bird.
Keep in mind that you'll need to find a fairly small turkey to use this cooking method, as you'll need to be sure that the bird will fit inside of your Crock-Pot. It's also crucial to thaw your turkey completely before cooking it, especially since you need to be able to remove the giblets before the bird goes into the slow-cooker.
To be sure that your turkey is done, check its temperature: If it registers 165 degrees, the meat is safe to eat. The result will be a juicy turkey with very little effort. But if you're expecting crispy, golden skin like you'd get with an oven-roasted turkey, you'll be disappointed: Since slow-cooking is a moist cooking method, the skin will be soggy when the turkey is done. You can just remove the skin before serving, but if you really want crispy skin, you can also put the turkey under your broiler for a few minutes.
