How Long to Boil Oysters
It only takes 3 to 5 minutes to boil oysters in a pot of salted water. They shouldn't be in the water for longer than 5 minutes, or they could end up tasting rubbery instead of tender. You can be sure they're fully cooked when the shells open. Any oysters that don't open after 5 minutes should be thrown away. Of course, you can also skip the cooking process entirely if you wish: Many people eat oysters raw.
