How Long to Cook Mussels
It only takes around 3 to 5 minutes to cook mussels. To do so, start by rinsing and checking over your mussels to make sure that they're clean, intact (not cracked or broken), and closed. (If you find an open one, tap on it; if it doesn't close, throw it away.) Then, prepare your steaming liquid; this can be as simple as a cup of broth. Bring the liquid to a boil in a large pot, then add your mussels and put the lid on the pot. Start checking them after 3 minutes: As soon as the mussels are open, they're done. If any of them don't open, throw them away.
